Photo by BGNES 23 persons have been arrested in the special operation of the Bulgarian police codenamed "The Impudent" against a large kidnappers' gang. This has been announced Thursday morning by Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov as quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio. The special operation is carried out jointly by the Interior Ministry, the State National Security Agency DANS and the Prosecutor's Office. "We have carried out an extremely well-organized special police operation against persons who are involved in the kidnappings of Bulgarian citizens. 23 persons have been detained so far, of them 5-6 are the really important ones. These people are extremely arrogant, impudent, with rich criminal records, some of them have been in prison for robberies or attempted murders, and unfortunately, God knows why, they have been released for good behavior. There is indisputable evidence that this gang is the one responsible for the kidnappings in the last two years. After this operation of the Interior Ministry together with the Prosecutor's Office, the people who have been terrorizing the Bulgarian society will be sentenced," Minister Tsvetanov declared. Bulgaria's Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Boyko Naydenov, has confirmed that the operation was still going on with searches of premises connected with the kidnappers' gang. Photo by BGNES Bulgaria's Interior Ministry has over 15 people overnight in a large-scale special operation codenamed "The Impudent" aimed at destroying the gang responsible for a number of kidnappings in the recent years. The arrested persons are believed to be part of the gang which has terrorized Bulgaria in the last couple of years by kidnapping important businessmen and/or their relatives. The news about the large-scale special operation were announced by Kalin Georgiev, Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry, as cited by Darik Radio. Georgiev made it clear that the operation was still in progress as the police were trying to capture all persons connected with the kidnappers' gang, which is believed to be responsible for the high-profile abductions in Sofia. The special operation "The Impudent" is being carried out in Sofia as well as in the northern cities of Veliko Tarnovo and Montana. The latest high-profile abduction in Bulgaria was the kidnapping of 22-year-old student Rumen Guninski Jr, son of businessman Rumen Guninski Sr, who spent 40 days in captivity. Various reports put the ransom paid for his release in November at EUR 300 000 - EUR 1 M. Businessman Kiro Kirov was kidnapped in the spring of 2009 and released for a ransom of EUR 620 000. The highest-profile abduction in 2008 was that of Angel Bonchev, former President of the Litex Football Club, and then of his wife Aneliya. Businessman Vene Sotirov was abducted in the spring of 2009 and is still missing. Photo by BGNES 15 out of a total of 23 arrested members of the Bulgarian kidnappers' gang have been captured by the police in the capital Sofia during the special operation codenamed "The Impudent". This has been announced by the Chief Secretary of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry, Kalin Georgiev. The other eight arrests have been made in the northern city of Veliko Tarnovo. The operation was also carried out in the city of Montana in the northwest. According to Bulgaria's Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, there is indisputable evidence that the arrested persons are the ones responsible for the several high-profile kidnappings in Bulgaria in the last couple of years.
