지혜가 필요합니까? 하나님께 구하십시오.

Many thoughts had become jumbled as I sorted out how best to communicate to my board of directors the thoughts and feelings I had in my heart. How could I most effectively convey to them the important information I wanted them to have, in a way that would enable them to fully understand how I had arrived at my conclusions? Drawing from experience, once again I knew that I needed to turn to God for clear direction – and wisdom.
내 마음 속에 가지고 있던 생각과 감정을 우리 이사회에 가장 잘 전달할 수 있는 방법을 궁리하면서 머리 속에 많은 생각들이 뒤죽박죽 떠올랐다. 내가 그들에게 주고 싶은 중요한 정보를 어떻게 하면 가장 효과적으로 전달하며, 내가 결론에 도달한 방법을 그들이 완전히 이해할 수 있도록 할 수 있을까?  경험상 다시 한번 나는 명확한 지침 – 그리고 지혜 – 을 얻기 위하여 하나님께로 향하여야 한다는 것을 알았다.

"God, show me Your agenda for tomorrow's board meeting," I prayed before going to bed that night. Then I went to sleep, trusting that I would have the needed insights when I woke up the next morning. To be honest, I had hoped to awaken with a step-by-step plan; instead, God had brought to my mind a story from my past that was very pertinent to the issues I would be discussing with the board.
“하나님 내일 이사회 회의를 위한 당신의 의제 보여 주십시오,” 라고 나는 잠자리에 들기 전에 기도하였다. 그런 다음 나는 내가 다음 날 아침 일어났을 때 원하는 통찰력을 갖게 될 것이라고 믿으면서 잠들었다. 솔직히 말해서 나는 어떤 단계별 계획을 갖고 잠에서 깨어나고 싶었는데; 대신, 하나님은 내 마음 속에 이사회와 토의하게 될 문제들과 밀접한 관련이 있는 내 과거의 이야기를 상기시켜 주셨다.

 
During the meeting that morning, my story set the stage perfectly for our agenda. It not only served as a powerful word picture for presenting the “heart” of what I wanted to say, but also demonstrated the key points that I needed to make.
그날 아침 회의 중에 나의 이야기는 우리들의 의제를 위하여 완벽한 기반을 만들어 주었다. 그것은 내가 말하고 싶은 내용의 “핵심”을 보여주는 강력한 언어 그림의 역할을 했을 뿐만 아니라 내가 말하기 원하는 요점을 보여주었다.
 
Although I was gratified, I was not particularly surprised at receiving such a vivid answer to my prayer for wisdom and guidance. I had experienced this many times during my journey as a follower of Jesus Christ, and once again God had shown His faithfulness in responding to my need. In the Bible’s New Testament, James 1:5 teaches, "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."
나는 만족스러웠음에도 불구하고, 지혜와 인도하심을 구하는 나의 기도에 그렇게 분명한 응답을 받는 것에 대하여 특별히 놀라지는 않았다. 나는 예수 그리스도를 따르는 자로서 나그네 길을 가는 동안 여러 차례 이것을 경험하였고, 그리고 다시 한 번 하나님은 나의 필요에 응답하시는 그분의 신실하심을 보여 주셨다. 신약성서, 야고보서 1:5은 “너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라” 라고 가르쳐주신다.

Unfortunately, such requests for wisdom often are the exception rather than the rule. I have found that sometimes the pressures and demands of the day prompt me to react immediately rather than pausing long enough to pray for God to guide the way. For other people, such a prayer would not even be a consideration. “What does God have to do with business? Why would God be at all concerned with what I do at work – or how I do it?”
불행하게도 지혜를 구하는 그러한 요청은 대개 정례적이기보다 예외적이다. 나는 때때로 그날의 압박과 필요한 일들로 인하여, 충분히 오래 멈추어 하나님께서 길을 인도하시도록 기도하는 대신에, 즉각적으로 반응하게 하는 것을 발견하였다. 다른 어떤 사람들은 그렇게 기도하는 것을 고려조차 하지 않는다. “하나님이 사업과 무슨 관계가 있어? 무엇 때문에 하나님이 직장에서 내가 하는 일 – 혹은 내가 그 일을 어떻게 하는지 – 에 대하여 관심이 있겠는가?

To such people, I would point out what the Bible tells about our relationship with God in the workplace. Also in the New Testament it says, “For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9). What that says to me is simple but profound: We work with God, and He works with us, to accomplish His purposes on earth – including the business and professional world.
그러한 사람들에게, 나는 성경이 직장에서의 하나님과 우리의 관계에 대하여 무슨 말씀을 해주시는지 지적해 주고자 한다.  다시 신약성서에서는 “우리는 하나님의 동역자들이요 너희는 하나님의 밭이요 하나님의 집이니라” (고린도전서 3:9) 라고 말씀하신다. 거기에서 내게 말씀하시는 것은 단순하지만 심오하다: 우리는 하나님과 함께 일하고, 그리고 그분은 우리와 함께 일하며, 이 땅에서 그분의 목적 – 사업과 전문직 분야를 포함 – 을 성취하기 위하여 그렇게 하신다.

If that is true, failing to consult with God and ask for His wisdom in making the many difficult and complex decisions we confront each day is foolish. We have various advisors and consultants we can call upon for counsel when needed; why not consult with God as well on important matters? As the Bible tells us, “Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom” (Psalm 145:3).
그것이 사실이라면, 우리가 매일 대하는 많은 어렵고 복잡한 결정을 내리는 일에 대하여 하나님과 상의하고 그분의 지혜를 구하지 않는 것은 어리석다. 우리는 필요하면 자문을 구하기 위하여 찾는 다양한 조언자와 상담역들을 갖고 있는데; 왜 중요한 일들에 관하여 하나님과는 상담을 하지 않는가? 성경이 우리에게 말씀해 주시는 바와 같이, “여호와는 광대하시니 크게 찬양할 것이라 그의 광대하심을 측량치 못하리로다” 시편 145:3).

God has a deep desire and yearning to partner with you in your work. He promises to provide generous doses of wisdom. Just ask Him!
하나님은 당신의 일에 동역하시기를 진심으로 원하시고 희망하신다. 그분은 넉넉한 분량의 지혜를 공급해주시겠다고 약속하셨다. 그분께 구하기만 하면 된다!
